Acupuncture

Our bodies are constantly changing. They change in response to the seasons, the balance of night and day, the food we eat, and countless other factors. Health is being able to experience change while maintaining balance. Acupuncture is one tool I use to help patients address the root causes of imbalance, and experience more ease.

What is acupuncture? Acupuncture is a wholistic therapy from China that uses thin, sterile needles to move qi and blood in the body. It’s known for its remarkable ability to treat pain. It can also be profoundly helpful in the treatment of digestive, allergic, auto-immune, mental-emotional, and sleep disharmonies.

How can one technique help with so many kinds of problems? Because it treats the whole person, not just the disease state. It supports the body’s natural healing processes, and helps the body to shift from patterns of injury or stagnation to patterns of ease and wellbeing.

Do the needles hurt? Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, so usually they do not hurt. Most patients find acupuncture soothing and pleasant. I have done many treatments on patients who have never had acupuncture, or who are afraid of needles, and had good results. But if acupuncture is not right for you, there may still be other ways I can help, like with herbs.

What should I expect during a session? Your first session will take between 1-2 hours. It start with a thorough intake and discussion of your health history, current needs and health goals. We will create a treatment plan that is specific to you. We will then do the acupuncture treatment, which usually takes about 45 minutes. Treatment sessions may also include other supportive techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine, like cupping, moxibustion, gua sha or Tui Na bodywork, as needed. If an herbal formula may help, I will recommend one. Follow-up sessions are 1 hour.
